Watch what NYCUP Spring Break 2011 was like for Gisella Gutierrez, Rutgers 2012
That wasn’t enough? Watch NYCUP Spring Break Spoken Word by Kit DeSalvo, Binghamton
NYCUP Spring Break Plunge 2012 grapples with issues of systemic injustice, racial reconciliation, poverty, class, and culture through prayer, bible study, sound teaching and direct service. Through Working with youth, feeding the homeless, and fighting sex-trafficking and slavery we deepen our understanding of the heart that God has for the poor, the widow and the orphan. You want to change the world? Come and learn how to do it!
Intervarsity’s mission is to see lives transformed, campuses renewed, and world-changers developed. NYCUP’s Spring Break Plunge is a catalytic program that develops volunteers with the character and capacity to change the world. Through direct service to the poor and needy, tutoring and mentoring young people and fighting sex-trafficking and slavery participants will be trained in how to preach a holistic Gospel with words, deeds and power.
Guilt, shame, obligation, fear, anger and praise for ourselves are NOT reasons to do justice. But it is only by the transformative power of the Love of God that we serve. Faith without works is dead and works without faith is slavery; we are most certainly free.
Students and volunteers who attend will go through orientation and debriefing along with workshops daily focusing on issues of injustice and how to engage in them practically using the Gospel of Jesus Christ as the basis fit how we love our neighbors. Daily schedules are dependent on the needs of the community but will include service during the day and teaching at night.
