In 1954, under the escort of federal marshals, a young Ruby went alone to William Frantz Elementary in New Orleans, the first African American student to attend an all-white school in the South. No longer a child, Ruby Bridges still embodies the vision of confronting the interlocking problems of poverty, racism and unequal educational opportunities that are still relevant today, especially in New York City.
February 23rd at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at 7pm, the Veritas Forum is collaborating with various student organizations to bring civil rights icon Ruby Bridges to speak at New York University. Ms. Bridges will be interviewed by Author, speaker and Director of Socrates in the City, Eric Metaxes. What is like to forgive such atrocity? What is it like to rise above and call all to a higher plane? What does she think of activism now? These questions and more will be answered at this historic event!
