I heard that 3 students from Columbia University’s athletes’ ministry came to faith in Christ last week. I’m looking forward to learning more of their stories.
This morning I received an email from Christine Loesser where she writes:
HIGHLIGHTS/ANSWERED PRAYER
-I was floored (in a GOOD, GOOD way) by Jenna’s honesty and boldness, and how articulate she was as she shared her story tonight. It was an INCREDIBLE launching pad for us as the students were then invited to share their stories of where they’re at on their journey in “huddles” – Jenna’s story “broke” things open. I believe the Lord used her story in major ways, and that it was a key instrument in others making decisions to follow Jesus tonight for the first time.
-9 athletes said that they want to see the Lord take their “hearts of stone” and exchange them for “hearts of flesh” (Ezekiel 36:26). They made professions of faith tonight!!!
-Another ALL-TIME-HIGH tonight in attendance – 37
-9 athletes said that though they’re not ready to hand their lives over to Jesus yet, they want to commit tocontinuing to investigate Him this semester.
-5 athletes want to join the ”launch” community-a community within NJCF of newer Christians who will explore what it looks like to live life with Jesus practically.
-7 athletes signed up to receive spiritual mentors/”bigs” - in the athletic community, a key issue can be pride/self-reliance – so to see these athletes step up, admitting they don’t know it all & want someone else to walk with them, is a HUGE step for this community!
-It looks like we’ve now had just under 50 athletes come through AIV – in just 3 weeks. (Spring 2011, our first semester in existence, we saw 40 athletes come through over the course of 13 weeks)
ALL GLORY BE TO JESUS, for how He is moving amongst these athletes!
Ken Vander Wall writes:
I don’t know if anyone has reported this but at XXL Corine from FDU received Christ as her Savior! She is a first-year student and came to XXL at the invitation of others. That was Friday PM and on Sunday she attended a church (with Maria, pres. of the chapter) that meets on campus. On the church response card she wrote:” Friday PM I received Christ as my Savior!”
Last night at WPU Jacky came to faith in Christ! Her sister (a WPU alum and former SGL) had brought (dragged!) her to our first LG two weeks ago. Her sister asked us to pray that Alyssa would come to believe in Jesus. Jacky came back on her own the next week and reported to her sister that she had never felt so welcomed as she did that night!! Last night, after Joanna (Pres.) presented the vision and a challenge to receive Christ, Alyssa raised her hand to indicate that she was a new believer!! Her friend Amy, who came at the invitation of Alyssa(!), indicated a new commitment to Christ!!! They both signed up to tutor our after-school program at a local church!!
Yes. To God alone be the glory!
By my count that raises the number of conversions in the region to 38. Wouldn’t it be amazing to see God glorify himself by bringing more than 40 students to faith by the end of September?
Let’s continue to pray, to share boldly, and to invite students to follow Jesus.
Faith & Courage,
Jason
